Eligibility for a Canadian Super Visa: Medical Insurance Requirements

The Canadian super visa is an excellent option for Canadian citizens and permanent residents who want their parents or grandparents to spend extended time with them in Canada. Unlike a regular visitor visa, the super visa allows approved visitors to stay for up to five years at a time, offering families valuable time together. However, one of the most critical elements of the application process is obtaining qualifying medical insurance.

Proper medical insurance coverage can protect visitors from unexpected medical costs and support access to healthcare throughout their stay. To qualify, the medical insurance must meet several key conditions.

1. Minimum of $100,000 in Emergency Medical Coverage

Eligible policies must provide emergency medical coverage of at least $100,000. This coverage amount helps manage unexpected medical expenses such as emergency treatment, doctor visits, and ambulance transportation.

2. Valid for a Minimum of One Year From the Date of Entry

The policy must remain valid for at least one full year starting from your parents’ or grandparents’ arrival date in Canada. Since super visa holders can stay in the country for an extended period, long-term coverage is a fundamental requirement.

3. Coverage for Healthcare, Hospitalization, and Repatriation

An approved policy must include emergency medical care, hospitalization services, and repatriation. Repatriation covers the cost of returning the policyholder to their home country in the event of a severe medical situation or death.

4. Paid in Full or With a Deposit

Medical insurance for the super visa must be either fully paid or activated with an initial deposit before arriving in Canada. Proof of payment is required during the application process.

Selecting a trusted insurance provider and reviewing the policy details carefully helps applicants feel confident that the coverage aligns with Canadian immigration standards.
